Exploring the Future: Insights from the 2025 Smart City Summit & Expo in Taipei

         The 12th Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) 2025, held from March 18 to 21 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, marked a significant milestone in the evolution of urban innovation. With the central theme of "Digital and Green Transformation," the event underscored the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainable practices in shaping the cities of the future.

     A Global Convergence of Innovators

        SCSE 2025 attracted an unprecedented assembly of global participants:
              - International Reach: Representatives from 59 countries and regions, encompassing 138 cities, convened to exchange insights and forge collaborations.
              - Increased Participation: The expo welcomed 2,806 international attendees, reflecting a 28% surge compared to the previous year.
              - Diverse Delegations: Notably, over ten Ukrainian city leaders participated, engaging in events like the "Ukraine Recovery and Reconstruction Business Opportunities Forum," highlighting the expo's role in addressing global urban challenges.

     Showcasing Cutting-Edge Innovations

         The exhibition floor was a testament to rapid advancements in smart city technologies:
              - Leading Exhibitors: Prominent companies such as Acer Group, ASUS, Chunghwa Telecom, and Foxconn showcased AI-powered solutions across sectors including smart transportation, healthcare, building automation, and energy management.
              - Specialized Pavilions:
                     • Smart City Global Co-Creation Pavilion: This inaugural pavilion fostered collaboration between Taiwanese enterprises and international partners, featuring innovations like all-optical networks and smart streetlights. 
                     • Low-Carbon Mobility Pavilion: Spearheaded by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, this pavilion showcased the future of smart transportation, including smart charging stations and the latest electric bus models.


Taipei's Leadership in AI Integration

         Under Mayor Chiang Wan-an, Taipei demonstrated its commitment to AI-driven urban development through the T.A.I.P.E.I. AI Strategy, focusing on:
              - AI Development: Enhancing logistics, smart mobility, and citizen services.
              - AI Governance & Ethics: Implementing policies for secure and responsible AI deployment.
              - AI in Public Services: Transforming urban planning, emergency response, and healthcare with AI-driven solutions.


Kaohsiung's Pioneering Initiatives

        Deputy Mayor Charles Lin introduced Kaohsiung's Generative AI platform, developed in collaboration with NVIDIA and Chunghwa Telecom. This city-scale AI integration utilizes Digital Twins and Large Language Models to optimize urban management, setting a precedent for global cities.

Recognizing Excellence in Energy Transition

        The inaugural "Urban Energy Transition Award" honored local governments for achievements in energy efficiency and renewable energy adoption:
              - Energy Transition Category: Pingtung County and Kaohsiung City were recognized for their efforts.
              - Circular Resource Promotion Category: Kinmen County and Taipei City received accolades for their initiatives.

        SCSE 2025 not only highlighted the current landscape of smart city innovations but also set the stage for future collaborations and advancements.
